Throughout my life, I've had the privilege of working with many people in different settings. Not just through my career at an accounting firm and with the local chamber of commerce, but also working at a nursing home, cosmetic store, and bartending/serving in multiple different environments.
These jobs taught me a lot about people through direct interaction and collaboration. The experiences they provided have shown me that patience and being kind can go a long way. I believe that if you are going to do something, there is no point in hitting the nails halfway through. Hard work always pays off.
Determining my major in college took me longer than I anticipated. I jumped from fashion to radiography, before ultimately earning an associate's degree in general studies. After transferring to North Central College, I majored in Interactive Media Studies. I love the process of creating something, and being able to say I was apart of that.
Ronnie Chieng once joked that if he were an intelligence officer, the best way to extract information from him would be to have him walk through a computer problem with his mother over the phone. I could not relate to that statement more. When you get a job in IT and your family then assumes that means you should be able to fix any type of computer problem...but did you try turning it off and back on? Watching the struggle of a not-so-user-friendly design for people that aren't as tech-savvy gave me a light bulb. How could this design be improved to better their experience?
I have found through all my experiences that I love helping people. That warm and fuzzy feeling you get when you know you made someone's life just a little bit easier, or their day just that little bit better, just by doing something small. Whether it's bringing flowers to your friend at work because you know they've had a rough day, or changing a password for a frustrated client so they can finally log back into their account. Anything to put a little bit of sunshine into the universe.
Helping people with their "IT problems" is how my passion for UX Design began and what helped me decide to make a change in my career path. I enjoy being challenged and push myself to help get my creativity flowing. I love the thought of design making someone's life better.
When I am not designing in graphics or UX/UI, I am more than likely working on some other sort of project, whether it be crafting in general or a random DIY project I found on Pinterest. If I am not crafting, I am snuggling with my two dogs or supporting a local rescue that is trying to save all the animals. Feel free to check out my Instagram to see some of my other crafty projects I've done.
